A list that needs no introduction.
Far from the Madding Crowd
A girl chooses between the rich guy, flashy soldier, and quiet farmhand.
If you’re looking for a romance story, this is a good choice. The soundtrack is nice and so are the locations. The snappy lines of dialogue created vivid characters.
Bits of the story seemed left out and I had some lingering questions at the end.
Not quite as good as the 2005 Pride and Prejudice, but still an enjoyable period movie.
Aquaman
A guy finds out he’s the true king of the fish people. Now he just has to survive long enough to claim his birthright.
If this is the best DCEU movie, I’m not missing anything. It’s not terrible, but I certainly wouldn’t watch it again.
Aquaman’s personality seemed undefined. Is he the strong, silent type? Annoyed and arrogant? Or the silly child out for a fun time and cracking earth jokes? If they can pick one, it’ll go smoother next time.
The story needed help too. It couldn’t handle two villains and resorted to the “fetch quest” formula to keep you engaged in different locations rather than a solid story. But Jason Momoa carried the weak plot to it’s convenient conclusion. He was the only redeeming value of the movie. Also, the romance was unnecessary.
I don’t know how he’ll be king when most people down there will still see him as a half-breed, but wielding his new toy might help.
I’ve seen lamer movies, but this one’s pretty low.
And in case you missed the message, humans are ruining the ocean.
The Martian
A guy gets left on Mars. Oops.
I don’t normally go for space movies, but this one’s really fun. Matt Damon is good. The story is good. The dialogue is good. The soundtrack is good. This review is just okay.
Even if you’re not crazy about space odysseys, you should watch it for the adventure and human resilience.
Robin Hood
Just another unnecessary “reimagining” of the classic tale.
Who thought this was a good idea? And why would they think it’d get a sequel? There’s only one good thing I can say about this movie: it was better than the Assassin’s Creed movie. That’s barely a compliment, but it’s the best I have.
The story offered nothing new and the plot-twists they did have were boring.
None of the characters showed a likable personality. Robin was childish; Marion fulfilled the obligatory feminist slot; and John’s purpose was to push the plot along by being the mentor. All the other people were lame. The villain could have been a bit good if he hadn’t overacted his villainy.
The costumes were horrendous. Painfully modern and outrageous, they distracted more than they contributed.
I don’t remember the soundtrack at all, which is sad for an adventure movie.
This movie shouldn’t have been made. Or, it should have been set in the future and called Robot in a Hoodie. At least that would’ve been more original and provided unique opportunities.
Oblivion
A guy gets put in charge of drone maintenance after earth gets attacked.
Slightly boring at times, but still kinda cool. It was a little vague in its execution and didn’t give clear-cut answers. It had a neat plot twist and satisfying ending, but I wouldn’t watch it again.
Clue
Who’s murdering everyone?
Ha! This movie was hilarious. Distinctive characters and a ridiculous plot all bumbling around a big house equals a fun time. What makes it even better is it would never get made today. If you’re not easily offended and can take a cheesy movie, you should check this out.
